Dedico esta entrada a repasar el uso y forma del pasado simple del verbo TO BE.
 Está dentro de la programación para mis alumnos de 1º ESO, así que os invito a que reviséis y estudiéis este tiempo verbal en casa y que realicéis las actividades también propuestas en esta página.

Dedico esta entrada a la actividad que voy a realizar con mis alumnos de 1º ESO.
La primera parte del ejercicio consiste en la comprensión lectora y auditiva ( reading and listening ) de un texto con vocabulario y estructuras elementales que servirán de repaso de la materia que hemos estudiado hasta ahora. Incluyo el enlace a dicha actividad:

Después, los alumnos tienen que realizar un ejercicio de expresión escrita (writing), siguiendo el modelo propuesto en la actividad previa.
Para ampliar el vocabulario y estructuras, los estudiantes repasan los siguientes aspectos de cada  unidad ya vista en su libro de texto:

La segunda parte de la actividad consiste en realizar un ejercicio de expresión oral (speaking) donde los alumnos se presentan hablando de ellos mismos con la información trabajada en el writing.
Los alumnos serán evaluados con un " assessment scale ", donde se incluirán aspectos gramaticales, de pronunciación,  de fluidez y creativos.

 This post is devoted to encouraging creativity by stimulating student´s imagination.
According to Fiona Mauchline, teacher, teacher trainer and materials writer, promoting creativity in the classroom resolves around emotional investment, engaging the senses, playing with language and conveying absolute personalisation in the outcome.
 The activity I have chosen is related to a video clip that deals with the Cycle of Life in a creative way. Every video tells a story so, as a warming up exercise, we could ask students to describe:

•  what they see 
• what they hear 
• how they feel
•  who they see 
• whether they like it or not and why?... 

Another activity we could do is to revise the vocabulary related to family and then to describe a favourite member of their family: their physical appearance and other aspects such as emotions, senses... This exercise could be also used to revise the present simple tense. We could ask questions such us:

• What colour of eyes, hair, skin has he/she got ?
•  What does his/ her voice sound like ? 
• What makes him/ her laugh ? 
• How does she /he walk?
• What do you have in common?... 

 Finally, students could write a short essay titled "Imagine Life " using the vocabulary and language  grammar used in the class.

" HOW TO" VIDEOS. BRITISH COUNCIL

The British Council offers a series of videos to see how to say things right in very different situations.
The situation I have chosen for this post is how to understand the differences between British and American English. The activity consists of a warm-up, preparation exercise and then, a task to do after watching the video.

HOLIDAY OR HOLIDAYS ?

En  español siempre se utiliza la forma plural “vacaciones” pero en inglés tanto la forma singular como plural es posible.  En esta entrada voy a explicar cómo decir correctamente vacaciones en ingles y cuándo utilizar "holiday" y cuándo "holidays."

 Holiday/s es la palabra que se utiliza en inglés británico.  En inglés americano se usa vacation/s y su uso de las formas singular y plural es diferente al de holiday/s en algunos contextos.  En este post voy a  tratar sólo holiday y holidays.

• Como en español, se usa “holidays” en plural cuando:

1.  se refiere a un periodo de tiempo, por ejemplo:

The summer holidays	Las vacaciones de verano
The Christmas holidays	Las vacaciones de Navidad
The Easter holidays	Las vacaciones de Semana Santa
etc

2.  se refiere a más de un viaje, por ejemplo:
How many holidays did you have last year?
¿Cuántas vacaciones tuviste el año pasado?
I had two holidays last year: in the summer I went to Italy and in the winter I went to Paris
Tuve dos vacaciones el año pasado: en el verano fui a Italia y en el invierno fui a París.
Pero

• Se usa “holiday” en singular cuando:

1.  se quiere decir “de vacaciones” y se dice “on holiday”, por ejemplo:
I’ll be on holiday next week.
Estaré de vacaciones la semana que viene.
2.  se refiere a un solo viaje, por ejemplo:
How was your holiday in Italy?
¿Qué tal tus vacaciones en Italia?
Además de ser la palabra inglesa para  “vacaciones”, también se utiliza “holiday” en otras situaciones, por ejemplo:

Un día festivo	Bank holiday o Public holiday
Días festivos	Bank holidays o Public Holidays

Ejemplos:
Next Monday is a bank holiday so we’re going away for a long weekend*.
El próximo lunes es día festivo así que saldremos de fin de semana largo.
There are more bank holidays in Spain than in the UK.
Hay más días festivos en España que en el Reino Unido.

 En el Reino Unido, con la excepción del día de Navidad (Christmas Day), el día de San Esteban (Boxing Day) y el Viernes Santo (Good Friday), los días festivos siempre se celebran el lunes después del día oficial.  Por lo tanto, el concepto de “puente” no existe allí.
